Google+ announces vanity URLs

 Google and Vanity URLs

Sharma, a product manager at Google’s San Francisco office, says the personalized addresses will be “available to people and pages worldwide,” but did not specify an exact date. On Monday, Google+ announced that they are introducing vanity URLS, which will allow users to further customize their profile pages- as you can with many other social media platforms. The vanity URLS are short and easy to remember web addresses that will link directly to a member’s profile. Right now each user is identified by a long, unique string of numbers.

“At first, we’re introducing custom URLs to a limited number of verified profiles and pages. But over time, we plan to offer custom URLs to many more brands and individuals,” he writes in the post. Sharma adds that the URLs will make it easier for users to find profiles on the social network. This change will also make it possible for people to advertise their Google+ accounts on printed materials like business cards or print ads.

For now, only celebs like David Beckham, Hugh Jackman and Britney Spears, as well as popular brands Hugo Boss, Toyota and Delta have gotten specialized addresses. Not a celebrity or famous company? I guess you’ll have to wait it out like us!
